New York Giants to Repeat Betting Odds
Super Bowl 46 is in the books and once again the New York Giants find themselves crowned champions going into the next season. As we look towards the 2012-13 NFL season the question is: “Can the New York Giants repeat?” While it was an amazing run, lead by All-Pro quarterback Eli Manning, there are definitely some weaknesses that will need to be addressed in the upcoming season.
In 2011, the Giants seemed to lose some of their identity. The Giants were expected to run the ball with authority, however, they finished the year ranked 32nd in rushing yards. Look for the Giants to find a fresh face in the NFL Draft, although top tier running backs will seem to come at a premium this year. With players like Trent Richardson of Alabama and Lamar Miller of Miami(FL) as two of the few NFL ready prospects, it could be more suitable for the Giants to resort to Free Agency as a possible place to pick up a veteran. Given the Giants history, it seems like they would rather take a younger, unproven back with fresh legs rather than an older, worn-down veteran.
The Giants also ranked 29th in passing yards allowed per game. This could be a spot more easily fixed in the NFL Draft. A variety of NFL caliber defensive backs are sprinkled throughout the draft class, including Morris Claiborne of LSU and Dre Kirkpatrick of Alabama.
It’s always a possibility for the New York Giants to repeat with a quarterback like Eli Manning. In order make this a certainty; the Giants need to find a few pieces in the draft and free agency that will enable them to find their identity.
